Beliefs Changed? - Let's Focus On Design

Once you've changed your beliefs to make it easy to lose weight, get fit, change jobs etc. It's then time to set about designing your life around what you want.

What you really want!

The biggest reason that people fail is because they fail to plan. We all need direction in life and for that reason it is important to get focused.

I suggest going somewhere quiet, locking the door and settling down with a pen and pad, this will allow you to brainstorm without interruption.

Identify what it is that you really want to achieve, maybe it is weight loss, if that is the case it is important to ensure that you are specific with your goals.

Simply writing down 'to lose weight' will not work becuase subconsciously as soon as you lose 1 or 2lbs you have completed your goal and sabotage your real goal.

If you want to lose 14lbs then write that down, then put a time frame on it.

Goals need to be timed, your subconscious will know when you are able to achieve this by, let it guide you.

Now you have your goal and a time frame you need to work break it down into more manageable chunks (many small steps are much easier to achieve than huge ones) you are also less likely to become bored when you see yourself achieving these smaller steps.

Who or what do you need to help you achieve your goal, are these resources you already have or do you need to find them?

Perhaps you need to join a gym, hire a personal trainer, seek the advice of a dietician.

This may seem like a lot of work but believe me planning leads to success.

So, let's review:

You have a Goal and it's specific

You've set a time frame

You have chunked it down into smaller more manageable steps

You have examined the resources you need to support you.

What else is needed?

Remember in the previous post we looked at the benefits of achieving or changing a behaviour, you do then lets do the same here.

Why do you want to lose weight?
What will it change for you?

What will happen if you don't lose weight?
How will life be in 10 years if you continue on you current path?

Remember we do things for one of two reasons:

To Gain Pleasure or Avoid Pain.

We need to make sure the pain is more than we can accept and that the pleasure is something we can become really passionate and inspired by.

Get this right along with the previous steps and you will achieve your goal.

The last ingredient is accountability and more importantly public accountability.

What do I mean by this, we achieve much better results when we become acountable for our actions, by setting a goal you have made yourself accountable to you.

Now lets make you accountable to other people, friends, work colleagues, partners or if you are really determined post a video diary on You Tube for example.

For a good example of someone who has experienced massive results in this way check out Adam Waters who at the age of 33 and after 6 years of failed diets got himself into the best shape of his life.

Change Your Belief System Now

Now we know what beliefs are and how they can affect our decisions and ultimately change the course of our lives, lets look at how we can change them.

Why, well quite simply if you know that a certain belief has held you back or stopped you achieving something you really wanted why wouldn't you want to change it?

The first thing we need to identify is what it is that you aren't happy with or have tried to achieve but failed at, perhaps you have tried to lose weight or get fit before but every time you get close to the weight that you want to be you fall off the wagon so to speak and the weight just piles back on.....there's a good example of a belief that may be holding you back.

Once identified we then need to question why this happens, what goes through your mind at this point, how do you feel, what are you saying to yourself.

These questions will inevitably throw up a belief that you have developed over a period of time, perhaps that belief is "I don't deserve to be trim" this could have been as a result of name calling or the like when you were at school and because it was so frequent it became a belief so every time you get close to having the body you deserve it kicks in and says "hang on a minute, I'm fat and always will be, don't you remember?" this in turn causes you to abandon all your efforts and revert to what you think is type!

Remember this part..."What you THINK is type"

So, now we have identified the negative belief that is stopping us moving forward and achieving all the things we want, lets change it shall we.

How do we do that?

First we need to look at the cost to you of having this belief;

What has it cost you until now, in terms of career, relationships, happiness?
What has it cost your family and friends?
What will it cost you in the next 12 months if you continue to let it dictate your actions?
What will it cost you in the next 5, 10 even 20 years?
What will life be like if you continue along this same path?

Not good I'm guessing, this really hits home doesn't it?

Now let's get positive for a while.

What would you like to believe instead?
How would you like to react?

Now picture yourself they way you want to be, how does it feel?

Look around you what can you see, what is different, how does it smell use all of your senses and soak up the atmosphere around you when you have acted in the way you always wanted but have never been able to.

How has this changed your life, now then look ahead 5, 10 even 20 years.

How great is your life and the life of those around you?

I can tell you the first time that I went through this process it really blew my mind and I realised just how much I had missed out on by letting outdated beliefs run my life.

So, Now you know what it is going to cost you if you continue along the same path as you have been...do you want to make a change?

Right then lets see if we can find supporting evidence that will allow you to move forward.

You have identified what you want to feel or how you want to behave already now lets see if we can find evidence in other areas of your life that support those actions, thoughts or feelings.

You see you do have the things you want.

Just to make things a little more certain lets make it easy for you to feel good about yourself, at the moment what has to happen for you to feel happy?

I am guessing something fairly complex.

It doesn't have to be though, just think how often you could feel happy if all that had to happen was for someone to say hello to you or smile at you!

This technique can be used for anything at all.

Make it easy it to feel good spend a bit of time looking at your beliefs and then change them to support you and make your life fantastic.

Just what are beliefs then?

Beliefs - we all have then and without even being aware of it your beliefs could well be holding you back and stopping you from achieving the things you really want in life, whether that be money, fitness, happiness or career we have beliefs that affect all of these things.

Let me explain a little; as humans we are subjected to influences every second of our lives, these could be the influence of friends, parents, media (T.V, Newspapers, etc), events past and present.

Based on our interpretation of these events or influences we feel emotions and then attach meanings to the event, as these events are replayed instead of assessing them again based on their current context our subconscious will either delete, distort or generalise about the event.

This process doesn't allow us to identify differences between the events and so we begin to believe that we must feel or behave in a certain way every time a similar event occurs.

So you can see that over many years this could well become a belief so powerful that it stops us achieveing the things we really want.

Beliefs are based on past events and infuences, they are then strengthened by evidence provided as a result of the delete distort and generalise process....they can be changed

Weight Loss, Muscle & Mindset

As I have been talking about the need to look at our mindset and in particular our beliefs and values supporting weight loss and fitness I thought you might be interested in the articles and products of someone who really does know his stuff.

Tom Venuto, Author of "Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle" has just released a new physical book entitled "The Body Fat Solution"

I have just finished the book myself and can say hand on heart that it provides excellent information as you would expect from a leader in the fitness industry.

This book is directed at everyday people that are looking for sensible and healthy advice about how to lose weight or more importantly how to lose body fat!

Tom has studied and worked in the fitness industry for over 20 years and in that time has built up a huge amount of knowledge, coaching both one on one and to thousands of people from all over the world via his Inner Circle membership club.

As someone who has studied Neuro Linguistic Programming  (NLP) himself he really understands the need to have a solid understanding of our minds in order to succeed in our desire to lose weight and sculpt the bodies of our dreams.

This book and Tom's downloadable book "Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle" are both excellent value for money and provide first class information that will result in weight loss and body reshaping through the loss of body fat.

The downloadable product will allow you immediate access to the program and is offered with some fantastic bonuses.

Mindset For Weight Loss

The food and diet industries are massive business and the physology they use in their marketing is extremely clever and very covered, by that I mean it speaks to us often on an unconscious level, convincing us that there product is the one that is going to solve our problem.

Yes, it might seem perfectly plausable that what they are saying is correct that is because they are playing on all of the beliefs and values surrounding yourself, your weight and your previous inability to lose weight.

Without even questioning we buy into this, chasing the idea that we will be able to lose weight easily, without dieting or exercising.

This isn't going to happen!

Through experience I have learnt that in order to achieve long term weight loss it is first necessary to explore the underlying problems behind our weight gain.

Not the reason you tell yourself, but the real reason.

You see, as humans we are subject to external influences all the time and all too often the reason we seem unable to lose weight is the result of several supporting negative influences, these are controlled by our subconscious and once exposed can be discounted through investigation of our other beliefs and values and then replaced with more positive supported beliefs.
